My purse holds words, thousands of them set down on scraps of paper, with a fluid pen. I can never find my keys in that black hole, but I locate the folded bits of paper easily. They are zipped into an interior pocket.
I need them for my work.
The words living on the scraps must be gathered, woven together with the knotted string and grasses, into a circle of braided twigs I found, just yesterday.
It is serious work, tedious and time consuming.
But in the end, my hope is that the nest will be strong and warm enough to hold the heart of the world.
The poem above describes me best. I am just one single human trying to make the world a better place by doing what one single human can do instead of just losing hope.
My name is Joellyn Marshall. I live in a suburb of New Orleans with my family and enjoy writing, reading, gardening, grandparenting, and all things southern.
