“As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird following… the whole flock adds seventy-one percent more flying range than if each bird flew alone.”
-from Lessons from the Geese by Robert McNeish
Kindness is trending. I see T-shirts with the words Be Kind or Kindness Matters. If I had the resources I’d print a bunch that say Kindness is the New Networking.
I believe they would generate some curiosity at the very least.
Networking is used as a way to connect individuals in every service industry, artistic community, and social group. It’s how we share resources like time, information, and ideas to enhance the growth of a cause that is meaningful to us, or a business that pays our bills.
The Kindness Network is a little different. It’s a network that gives but expects nothing in return. Individuals in The Kindness Network liberally spread good deeds with the single aspiration of the good being paid forward.
And forward and forward.
Kindness is the uplift for one we may never see or know. Regardless, it has the capacity to join hearts and to elevate and strengthen us as a flock of humanity…so keep flapping.
Please contact us with your networking ideas to add to the Kindness Network library. Posted here are ones we have received:
- Tip your waiter 33%
- Bring a supply of towels/blankets to a pet shelter.
- Make it a habit to let a couple vehicles in front of you at busy intersections.
- Invite a neighbor who lives alone to dine with you and your family.
- Propagate plants and give them away. Include a placard encouraging the plant lovers to pass on the kindness in some way.
- Bring in a favorite treat and leave it in the break room.
- Compliment someone when they least expect it.
- Send extra money to the book fair at your child’s school for children with little or no resources to spend on books and goodies.
- Let someone cut in front of you in line at the market.
- Send a goodie box to an overseas military base.
- Buy or send flowers to someone for no reason.
- Pay for someone’s groceries or their restaurant bill.
- Offer to babysit for a friend, neighbor or family member.
- Bake cookies or buy donuts for the police or fire department and deliver them.
- Leave money on a vending machine.
